New Ironman Pro Membership

This week a new membership came out for Pro Athletes who race 70.3 or Ironman events. WTC has made a membership, which costs 750 US, and allows professional athletes everywhere to race any event at anytime. They also explained that the money raised will be used for anti-doping costs.

Thoughts anyone?

Seems pretty expensive as the purses available to win by the pros are not very big. If more pros race per event the chance of winning will be even lower. When you consider the amount of races you can effectively race in one season, this really cuts into your (the pros) funding.

Just my quick thoughts,

There could be some big name ITU Pro's who only want to race one or even two 70.3 races that still doesn't add up to 750 who may just race age group...
Also there are going to be a lot of 70.3 or Ironman Pro's who don't do the sport as a living but can still race at that level who wont want to provide a weekly schedule of exactly where they are every minute of everyday for the doping agency to do random doping test. Since that's what comes with paying the membership, that can be a lot to ask of some...my thoughts anyways.

I am ok with the price and think it will be put to good use. My only issue is I was looking to only do a few races internationally and now to break even I have to do at least 3 or 4. Also for up and coming professionals, such as myself I am not at the level to compete against guys like Craig Alexander yet. So when I enter a race hoping to make a couple bucks and don't come within 8% of the winning time, that leaves me without a pay cheque. For most of us we will not peak until we hit our 30's and to even compete with the guys who are going 3:40-50 for a 70.3 when I am going 4:07 is insane and not worth the investment.
